Desiccant Dehumidifiers
High quality absorption dehumidifiers from the best brands in the business
We have an excellent range of desiccant dehumidifiers available to order online and by phone. Our range features equipment from some of the most reputable brands in the industry. We have models available in a range of sizes, suited to home use, commercial use and industrial use. These dehumidifiers perform well in cold conditions - even well below freezing. We have models ideal for use in basements and attics, cellars, gyms, garages, construction sites, aircraft, boats and more.
How Does a Desiccant Dehumidifier Work
These appliances feature desiccant material, assembled in a corrugated formation on a rotating wheel. A fan draws air into the dehumidifier through a vent and passes it through the wheel. The desiccant absorbs moisture from the air like a sponge and the dry air is blown out of the dehumidifier through another vent.
The saturated desiccant wheel continues to rotate around, where a stream of reactivation air and a heating element are used to dry out the desiccant, so that it can absorb more moisture. Moisture evaporates from the desiccant and is removed from the unit as water vapour, via another vent.
Lengths of ducting can be fixed to the inlet and outlets on these dehumidifiers. When ducted, they can be placed inside the area that needs to be dried and the moisture vented outside, or the unit can be placed outside the space, the humid air removed from the space and dry air vented back in.
Where To Use
Desiccant dehumidifiers are much more effective at drying in lower temperatures and lower humidity environments - they even work effectively in temperatures well below freezing. They are perfect for use in unheated spaces, challenging cold climates, and for applications where a low relative humidity or absolute humidity level is required. They are often used in cold storage areas, basements, boats, aircraft, construction sites, and specialist manufacturing and food production & manufacturing applications requiring a low relative humidity level.
Advantages
- High moisture removal rate in a single air pass
- Effective in very low temperatures - well below 0 degrees
- Effective in low humidity environments
- Capable of achieving very low absolute humidity levels
- Small, compact & portable
- Versatile installations with different ducting options
Disadvantages
- Higher energy consumption than refrigerant dehumidifiers
- Higher running costs than refrigerant dehumidifiers
- Low specific moisture extraction (kg/kWh)
- Ducting required from/to outside for reactivation air and wet air
