Absorption And Desiccant Dehumidifiers

Desiccant dehumidifiers, also known as absorption dehumidifiers, use moisture-absorbing materials rather than refrigeration coils, making them highly effective in cold environments and low humidity conditions.

Fast And Effective Drying Technology

A desiccant dehumidifier is capable of high amounts of moisture removal in a single pass, making it an effective solution for industrial drying, construction projects and specialist humidity control applications. They are, additionally, compact and portable, meaning that they are versatile pieces of equipment that can be used across a multitude of environments and industries. This portability makes them suitable for garages, basements, cellars, workshops and temporary drying setups.

How Do Desiccant Dehumidifiers Work?

Desiccant dehumidifiers work by trapping the air's moisture in an internal material like a sponge.

Inside a desiccant dehumidifier is a desiccant material, assembled in a corrugated formation on a rotating wheel. A fan draws air into the dehumidifier through a vent and passes it through the wheel. As the air passes through, the desiccant absorbs moisture like a sponge and the dry air is blown out of the dehumidifier by another vent.

As the wheel continues to rotate, a stream of reactivation air and a heating element are used to dry it out, so that more moisture can be absorbed. Moisture evaporates from the desiccant and is removed from the unit as water vapour, via another vent.

Ducting can be installed on the inlets and outlets of these dehumidifiers. When ducted, they can be placed inside the area that needs to be dried and the moisture can be vented outside, or the unit can be placed outside and have the humid air removed and vented back in. This makes ducted desiccant dehumidifiers particularly effective for enclosed spaces, plant rooms and industrial environments where moisture must be removed or controlled remotely.

Where Can I Use A Desiccant Dehumidifier?

Absorption or desiccant dehumidifiers are most effective when used in lower temperatures and lower humidity environments, including cold rooms, unheated buildings and winter operating conditions. It's even possible to use a desiccant dehumidifier below freezing temperatures due to its dehumidification process. This makes them suitable for use in environments where temperatures fall below zero, such as cold storage areas and exposed industrial sites.

A desiccant dehumidifier is best used in cold climates or where a high relative humidity or absolute humidity level is required. They are commonly used as dehumidifiers for garages, basements, boats and marine environments where consistent moisture control is essential. As a result, they are best used in basements, boats, aircrafts, construction sites, specialist manufacturing and food production settings where a high relative humidity level is necessary, including pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing and controlled production environments.
